NEW DELHI: The Golden State Warriors reportedly made an audacious attempt to bring together two of the NBA's greatest rivals, LeBron James and Stephen Curry, just ahead of last week's NBA trade deadline, as per ESPN sources.
Speculation about LeBron James' future with the Los Angeles Lakers had intensified after the 39-year-old posted an image of an hourglass on social media, fueling discussions about his potential departure from the struggling Lakers. The Lakers, currently sitting at ninth place in the Western Conference, faced playoff elimination in the first round last season and are in a challenging position this season.

According to ESPN, Warriors forward Draymond Green, who shares an agent with LeBron James, played a pivotal role in encouraging the Golden State team to explore the possibility of a trade with the Lakers.
Lakers owner Jeanie Buss expressed a reluctance to trade their marquee player but remained open to a deal if James expressed a desire to leave. However, after contacting James's agent, Rich Paul, the response indicated that James intended to stay with the Lakers and had no interest in joining the Warriors.

The report suggests that while LeBron James plans to return to the Lakers for the next season, both the Warriors and the Philadelphia 76ers inquired about the future Hall of Famer around the trade deadline.

LeBron James and the Golden State Warriors had faced off in four consecutive NBA finals, starting in the 2014-15 season when James was part of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Warriors emerged victorious in three of those matchups. The defining moment of James's career came in the 2016 NBA finals when he led the Cavaliers to victory after overcoming a 3-1 deficit against the Warriors.
Despite being close to 40, LeBron James remains an impactful player, earning his 20th NBA All-Star selection this season and maintaining an average of 24.8 points per game.
