Chandigarh, Mohali and Patiala register wins

On the Day Two of the ML Markan Trophy matches being played at various venues, Chandigarh posted 303 in 81.2 overs after they surpassed the target of 219 at YPS, Mohali on Thursday.

CHANDIGARH: On the Day Two of the ML Markan Trophy matches being played at various venues, Chandigarh posted 303 in 81.2 overs after they surpassed the target of 219 at YPS, Mohali on Thursday.
Their innings was sustained by Shubham Chand (84) off 113 balls. His knock was studded with 14 fours and Vineet Dakka (62) off 89 balls, including nine boundaries.

Other notable contributions came from Saiyam Sareen (33), Shivam Bhambri (29) Bagminder (27) and Arjit Singh (22).
For Ludhiana, Nikhil Chaudhary scalped a fiver by giving away 96 runs. He was ably supported by Manan Jain and Jai Sharma who took two wickets each.
Ludhiana, in their second innings, were tottering at 6 for 3 in just 4 overs before playing out the remaining overs to end the day at 22 for 3. Chandigarh got 2 points for the first innings lead.
Mohali beat Bathinda
In the second match, Bathinda went down fighting to Mohali as they were all out for 300 in 91.3 overs and conceded the crucial first innings lead of 12 runs. Resuming from overnight 15 for no loss they were well served by Jashan (107) off 234 balls including 13 boundaries and Anil (101) off 133 balls with 15 boundaries and one six. The two centurions were involved in a 182 runs fourth wicket stand before Anil was trapped in front by Harpreet with team's total reading 244 for 4. Jashan was the next one to go when he was stumped by Harsrup off Harpreet for (107) with team's total 269 for 5. Thereafter, it was a regular procession for Bathinda batsmen and they folded up for 300. Harpreet (4/91) and Amish Sidhu (3/74) were the main wicket takers. Khupreet also bagged two wickets by giving away 40 runs. Mohali got 2 points for first innings lead.

Patiala beat Ropar
The third match between Patiala and Ropar started late (2.10 pm) due to overnight rain. Ropar batsmen were caught on a sticky wicket and were reduced to 24/6 in 16.1 overs before a rear guard action by Sarthak (34) and Harpreet Brar (23) took the total to 110 all out in 48.5 overs. Left arm spinner Gurtek (5/24) and right arm medium pacer Ashutosh (4/34) shared the bowling honours for Patiala. Patiala got 2 points for their first innings lead.

U-19 trials
Selection trials for the Mohali District under-19 team for participation in the forthcoming Punjab Inter-district under-19 Cricket Tournament will be held on Sunday at 7 am at C-Ground, PCA Cricket Stadium in Mohali. Players born on or after 1.9.1992 and either studying or residing in Mohali are eligible to appear. Players are advised to bring along certificates of date of birth.
