Bangalore: A confident Indian team left for the U-19 ACC Asia Cup beginning on December 28 at the United Arab Emirates. India take on UAE at Sharjah on the opening day.
"We have won three tournaments so far and that has made us confident of doing well," skipper
Vijay Zol told TOI. "All the players have prepared well as they have been playing for their state teams in domestic cricket."
In the last edition in 2012, India, led by
Unmukt Chand, finished joint winners with Pakistan in Singapore.
Thereafter the team, led by Zol, rediscovered its form, winning the Tri-Nation series in Darwin against Australia and New Zealand. In August, they won the Youth ODI against Sri Lanka and followed it up with the Quadrangular title in Visakhapatnam which featured South Africa, Australia and Zimbabwe.
The team had a week-long preparatory camp at the National Cricket Academy here under coach Bharath Arun. "The Asia Cup will come as a new challenge and experience for us as we prepare for the U-19 World Cup in UAE next year," Zol added.
