CHITTAGONG, May 14: After vice-captain Mohammad Ashraful was ruled out of Tuesday's final One-dayer against India following high fever, three other Bangladesh players have become doubtful for the game due to viral infection.
The host camp has become a mini hospital with Shahadat Hossain Rajib, Abdur Razzak and Farhad Reza down with high fever, according to skipper Habibul Bashar.
While Razzak was having fever since Saturday, Rajib got the infection on Sunday, while Farhad fell ill this morning.
As an emergency measure, three members of the Test squad - Tushar Imran, Rajen Saleh and Mehrab Hossain (Jr) - who were set to join the team on Tuesday, have been asked to reach Chittagong by Monday night.
Meanwhile, the local met office has issued a hurricane warning and there was a possibility of the game getting truncated as the elements are bound to play havoc in the lead-up due to high winds.
Having lost the three-match series after going down in the first two games, Bashar was eyeing a good performance on the morrow to give the team a boost ahead of the two-Test series.
"We will be delighted to win the last match. But I know that beating India in the subcontinent is very difficult. They have a very good record in the subcontinent," he said.
At the same time, he said the hosts could finish on a winning note if they played good cricket.
Asked whether the team members felt a tinge of sadness as this would be Dav Whatmore's last ODI as Bangladesh coach, Bashar replied "Naturally, players are feeling bad for him."
Queried about his own plans to step down, Bashar said, "Let the Test series be over. Then I will let you know about this. But frankly speaking, I am feeling a bit puzzled."
On Indian cricket manager Ravi Shastri's comments that his side would not show any mercy to Bangladesh, Bashar said: "I am not going to comment on this. May be, he has said this to pep up his boys, or to create pressure on us."
