NAGPUR: Experienced leg-spinner Samir Khare scalped five wickets to bowl AG Nagpur to a thumping ten-wicket victory over Jaipur in the inaugural match of the IA and AD West Zone Cricket tournament at Ambedkar College ground on Monday.
Opting to bat, Jaipur were skittled out for mere 40 thanks to a deadly spell (6-4-7-5) by Khare. Leggie Khare was ably supported by left-arm seamer Shreekant Wagh, who bagged a couple.
Azhar Sheikh chipped in with a wicket.
AG Nagpur openers Akshay Kolhar (4) and Aditya Sarwate (27) knocked off the small target in just 3.1 overs without any loss. In another match played at the VNIT ground, Gwalior thrashed Raipur by 116 runs in a high-scoring encounter.
Elected to bat, Gwalior amassed a score of 314 in 40 overs losing 8 wickets. Rameez Khan smashed 153 off 84 balls (17 fours and 7 sixes), while
Amit Sharma hammered 64 off 29 balls (6 fours and 4 sixes).
In reply, Raipur were bundled out for 198 in 33.2 overs despite Manoj Singh's 81. On Tuesday, Nagpur will clash with Ahmedabad in the first semifinal at Ambedkar College ground at 9:30 am. In the second semis, Gwalior will lock horns with Rajkot at VNIT ground.
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Vandita Kaul, PMG, Prakash Ratnaparkhi, Accountant General, SS Kalpande, Vishal Chawre, RVK Sai Gandhi, VC Joy and D Varghese.
