NAGPUR: A fighting unbeaten century by
Prakash Munda enabled Jharkhand earn a respectable draw against Vidarbha on the fourth and final day of the Col CK Nayudu U-23 Trophy match at the VCA Civil Lines ground on Thursday.
Coming to bat at No. 6 when his team was struggling at 56 for 4 and facing certain defeat, Munda frustrated the hosts with a marathon innings of 158 not out.
The right-hander middle-order batsman was at the crease for 437 minutes and faced 371 balls. His big century was studded with 20 fours and one six.
Resuming at their overnight score of 245 for 7, Jharkhand stretched their innings to 388 virtually denying Vidarbha an outright win. With the help of tailenders, Munda milked the bowling of Vidarbha on way to his match-saving knock.
Vidarbha earned three points for the first innings lead, while Jharkhand got one.
BRIEF SCORES: Jharkhand 187 and 388 in 157.3 overs (Vishal Singh 92, Prakash Munda 158 no, Babul Kumar 44, Pappu Singh 20; Sachin Kataria 4-62, Akshay Karnewar 4-95, Suniket Bingewar 1-47, J Sharma 1-0) drew with Vidarbha 326 and 17-0 in 10 overs.
