Proteas lost second Test sensation Jean-Paul Duminy for 13 runs in the post-lunch session to pacer Mitchell Johnson.
South Africa lost Jacques Kallis (37), Hashim Amla (51) and AB de Villiers (11) in the morning session to reach 176/4 at lunch on Day 3.

Debutant Andrew McDonald grabbed his first Test wicket in the form of Amla and a brilliant run-out by bowler Mitchell Johnson left South Africa reeling at the SCG.
Johnson also removed in-form Jacques Kallis for 37. South Africa skipper Graeme Smith is retired hurt with a broken finger.
In reply to Australia's 445 in the first innings, South Africa ended Day 2 on 125 for one with Hashim Amla and veteran Jacques Kallis in the middle.
South Africa lost Neil McKenzie (23) to Peter Siddle and Graeme Smith (30 retired hurt) to injury before reaching 125 for one at stumps. Smith hurt his little finger after a Johnson delivery bounced sharply to hit him and the South African skipper, already nursing an elbow injury, headed to the hospital for an X-ray.
