DURBAN: An all-round performance inthe second Twenty20 match against Australia has earned rookie Roelof van derMerwe a berth in the South Africa squad for first two matches of the upcomingOne-day series against Ricky Ponting's men from April 3-17.
The24-year-old all-rounder top scored for the Proteas, making a brisk 48 off 30balls, then swiftly ran out Callum Ferguson and then claimed the key wicket ofDavid Hussey in a superb display which helped the hosts clinch the Twenty20series 2-0.
"Roelof, as an all-rounder provides us with cover forJacques Kallis who is recovering from a groin injury. Jacques' fitness will beassessed by our medical team when the squad assembles in Durban today," CricketSouth Africa's chief selector Mike Procter said.
The first match ofthe five-ODI series will be played at Sahara Stadium in Kingsmead on Fridaywhile the second be hosted by Super Sport Park on Sunday, a CSA release said.
