The year 2013 has seen Gujarat shining in all quarters, as our sparkling celebs made headlines with their powerful performances in showbiz and sports.
Here's taking a look at their exploits and hoping that 2014 will see much more of them taking their stature on a different high.
Sporting EncountersThe Saurashtra juggernautsReport Card:
Cheteshwar Pujara and
Ravindra Jadeja have grown by leaps and bound.
Pujara has scored some big international hundreds but probably, with the 153 against South Africa being the highlight. Fittingly, he was named the ICC's emerging cricketer of the year. Ravindra Jadeja put in some strong performances even in test cricket, bagging six wickets in the recent test match against SA. Jaydev Unadkat made a comeback to Team India after almost three years.
What Lies ahead: While Ravindra can cement a berth in the test team if he performs consistently, Pujara would hope to continue doing well overseas besides eyeing to seal a spot in the ODI team. Jaydev needs to be more consistent to be a regular in the team.
Ahmedabad's OwnReport Card:
Parthiv Patel continued scoring big for Gujarat consistently, apart from putting in some impressive
IPL performances. Smit Patel, who shot to fame with his contribution in India under 19 side's World Cup win, was picked for India under-23.
What Lies ahead: While Parthiv will hope he continues the good run, Smit needs to contribute more with the bat.
Vadodara StarsReport Card:
Yusuf Pathan had a disappointing IPL, was left out of the Indian side and didn't begin the season too well. However, he recently lead Baroda from the front scoring an impressive century against Madhya Pradesh and took a match-winning six wicket haul against Saurashtra. Irfan, who was a part of the Indian ODI side, got injured and was sidelined for most of the year.
What Lies ahead: Irfan will hope to stay injury-free and start bowling soon. For Yusuf, next year's IPL will be a great opportunity to make a statement.
The U-23 BrigadeReport Card: Many youngsters made it to different Indian junior sides. Some of these names include Bhargav Bhatt, Akshar Patel, Rush Kalaria, Jasprit Bumrah, Manprit Juneja, Rishi Arothe, Deepak Hooda and Atit Seth. While Bhargav impressed while playing for India A, Akshar was declared the best under-19 cricketer in India by BCCI for the 2012-13 for his tremendous all-round performances.
What Lies ahead: They will be looking forward to graduating to the next level!
