4 Winners And Losers From The Patriots’ 30-17 Loss To The Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals triumphed over the New England Patriots 30-17, highlighting a stark contrast in performance. Christian Gonzalez shone with his defensive prowess, while Drake Maye displayed promise despite offensive line struggles. Vederian Lowe's poor performance and Kayshon Boutte's costly drop were key factors in the Patriots' defeat.

This is not the year of the underdogs at the NFL; the big shakeout has left the roster top and bottom-heavy and experts agree that some teams have performed quite curiously this season. The quarterbacks cost the Giants, the Jets and the Raiders quite a lot but it’s not just the skill players who are to blame, there’s quite a bit of dysfunction when within teams which is really showing on the field.

Who Won Big And Who Lost The Plot On Sunday’s Big Patriots vs Cardinals Game?

When it comes to the Patriots vs Cardinals match, the poor defense was a big issue and the offense struggled to find its footing as well. The Arizona Cardinals defeated the New England Patriots on Sunday with a final score of 30-17. While analysts couldn’t help but wonder about the coaching, the fans rooted for cornerback Christian Gonzalez and Drake Maye who was let down by his offensive line but managed to make some impressive plays. Let’s look at some winners and losers from the match.

Winner: Christian Gonzalez

Gonzalez should really get closer to all-pro status this year; his dominance on the field has been a bright spot for the team and he proved why he’s one of the topmost cornerbacks in the NFL. He blanketed Marvin Harrison aligning across from him on 21 of the receivers’ 29 routes. He was targeted multiple times by Cardinal quarterback Kyler Murray but it was wasted play. Gonzalez was able to take away eight points from the Cardinals by preventing two touchdowns and turning them into field goals.

Loser: Vederian Iowe

Fans have been roasting the offensive tackle quite a bit post the game. The lineman was slow overall and needed a lot of time to get out of his stance. He also gave up a huge blindside tackle sack on Drake Maye, who’s showing great form this season. He also whiffed on a block that led to a two-yard loss on Rhamondre Stevenson's first-down run. And the Patriots may be realising after the match that they need to replace Iowe sooner rather than later.

Winner: Drake Maye

Almost every analyst has criticised the Patriots’ performance but quarterback Drake Maye has proved to be a silver lining for the team. Maye completed 19 of his 23 attempts for 202 yards; he connected on a shuffle pass to wide receiver Demario Douglas for the touchdown catch. “It’s frustrating because we’re in these games, and I think we can win these games, but the balls are not rolling our way,” Maye said during the postgame press conference.

Loser: Kayshon Boutte

The New England Patriots wide receiver had fans confused with his dropped reception that got picked off. Quarterback Drake Maye threw a pass that bounced out of Boutte’s hands and landed right into the hands of Cardinals cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting. The Patriots’ offensive side had a poor showing and only started picking up the slack in the fourth quarter but by then it was too late.
“I’ll just say, I know it’s a play I’ve got to make but it’s kind of hard when you’re running full speed in one direction and the ball is kind of low,” Boutte said, via MassLive’s Mark Daniels. “It’s a play I’ve got to make… We talked about it to see what we both could’ve fixed.”
