Commanders news: Washington agrees to one year extension with DL Drake Jackson

The Washington Commanders have decided to bring back defensive lineman Drake Jackson for another season, agreeing to a one-year contract extension ahead of the 2026 campaign. The move signals that Washington is willing to continue its experiment with the former second-round pick despite his recent injury setbacks.

Jackson’s agent confirmed the deal, which keeps the 26-year-old pass rusher in Washington after he joined the team midway through the 2025 season. While financial details were not publicly disclosed, the extension gives the Commanders another opportunity to evaluate Jackson’s long-term potential on the defensive line.

Why did the Commanders re-sign Drake Jackson?

Washington initially signed Jackson in October 2025 as he worked his way back from the knee injury. The defensive end spent most of the season on injured reserve before finally returning late in the year.



He played in the final three games of the 2025 season, recording three tackles. While the statistical output was limited, the Commanders saw enough during those appearances and in practice to justify giving the former USC standout another opportunity.
