The Dallas Cowboys’ already struggling season took another hit on Sunday when quarterback Dak Prescott was forced to leave the game against the Atlanta Falcons with a hamstring injury. As Prescott sat out the second half, backup quarterback Cooper Rush took over, but the Cowboys still fell 27-21, adding to the team’s recent woes. Also Read: Micah Parsons remains optimistic about Cowboys’ playoff chances with Cooper Rush leading the offense

Dak Prescott’s injury could end his season

The big question now is how long Prescott will be sidelined. Team owner Jerry Jones has yet to provide a specific timeline for his return. However, after the game, Prescott shared that he had “felt something he never felt before” in his hamstring. He confirmed that he would undergo an MRI on Monday but was unsure of the impact it would have on his playing time.Reports indicate that Prescott may have suffered a partial avulsion of his right hamstring tendon, a serious injury that has team officials considering whether surgery will be necessary. If surgery is required, it could end Prescott’s season. The quarterback is reportedly seeking second opinions before any decisions are made.
During his weekly radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jones suggested that Prescott could be heading to Injured Reserve (IR).
However, head coach Mike McCarthy later clarified that no IR decision had been made yet, so Prescott’s absence from the field is not yet guaranteed to be for a minimum of four weeks.Jones, though concerned about Prescott’s injury, expressed optimism that the Cowboys could still turn things around. Speaking after the Falcons game, Jones said, “I really regret this for all of our Dallas Cowboys fans,” but he remains hopeful for a rebound. The Cowboys’ playoff hopes are beginning to fade, especially considering their history. Only once have they made the playoffs after a 3-5 start, back in 2018 when they acquired Amari Cooper. If Prescott is placed on IR, the earliest he could return is December 9 against the Cincinnati Bengals, but by then, Dallas could be too far out of playoff contention. Also Read: "If it comes, it comes": 49ers' Nick Bosa unfazed by potential fine after MAGA hat appearance
