Former Jacksonville Jaguars safety Tashaun Gipson is rejoining the San Francisco 49ers for the final stretch of this season

The 49ers claimed defensive tackle Khalil Davis off waivers and agreed to sign safety Tashaun Gipson to the practice squad. Gipson was with the team for the last two years and was cut loose following a six-game suspension. In his first two years with the Niners, he started 39 games of the regular season and the postseason. During that period, he recorded 142 tackles on average, six interceptions, 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. He also started six playoff games during that time. Gipson spent his first four years with the Cleveland Browns before signing with the Jaguars in 2016. He started all 48 games for the Jaguars, including all three playoff games in 2017, with six interceptions and 16 pass deflections.The Jaguars have stuck with their starting pair at safety: Andre Cisco and Darnell Savage. But it's safe to say that Andrew Wingard will probably factor into the rotation more as the season wears on.
