Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens created a buzz in the NFL world through his most recent social media post. A black-and-white photograph showcasing Las Vegas Raiders minority owner Tom Brady with legendary quarterback status generates rumors about the Pittsburgh Steelers' prospect for Pickens. Many football squads including both the Raiders and New England Patriots display potential interest in drafting this promising wideout before the upcoming draft.

Is George Pickens on the move? Steelers’ recent moves suggest so

During his second draft round selection in 2022 George Pickens emerged as a dynamic playmaker with the Pittsburgh Steelers. His three-season record includes 2,841 receiving yards with his 2023 season producing 1,140 yards along with five touchdowns. The acquisition of star receiver DK Metcalf by Pittsburgh has brought doubt about his place in the Steelers offensive setup.Pittsburgh demonstrated their firm dedication to Metcalf by extending to him a five-year $150 million contract. The Steelers maintain a conservative approach when investing substantial amounts of money on wide receivers thereby creating an uncertain future for Pickens. Multiple reports show the Steelers viewing his delayed arrival and declining results in crucial moments as reasons why they might not maintain him as part of their extended future despite Aaron Rodgers potentially replacing the quarterback position.

Las Vegas Raiders: A potential destination?

George Pickens triggered speculation about a potential Brady trade when he posted the quarterback on social media to the Raiders. The Las Vegas Raiders seek a top receiving threat now that they lost Davante Adams during the season. Uniting Pickens with Brock Bowers as tight end would create for the Raiders a dangerous offensive combination which presents nightmarish challenges to opposing defensive schemes.Brady's participation in the Raiders' front office leads many to believe he is using his influence to bring Pickens to Las Vegas. The Steelers would receive multiple phone calls from the Raiders if they decide to trade George Pickens.

New England Patriots in the race

The Raiders aren’t the only team reportedly interested in Pickens. ESPN NFL analyst Mina Kimes recently emphasized on NFL Live that the New England Patriots need to be aggressive in surrounding their young quarterback, Drake Maye, with top-tier talent."I would pick up the phone and call the Steelers about George Pickens now that they’ve signed D.K. Metcalf. They have to be aggressive about doing something because right now Maye does not have enough help," Kimes stated.
With a lack of proven weapons in New England, adding Pickens could significantly elevate their passing attack. While nothing is set in stone, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review beat writer Joe Rutter sees a strong possibility of a draft-day trade."There is definitely a good chance. I think by the draft, [the Steelers] will have pretty much everything in place. I could still see a draft-day trade coming, with them moving Pickens to maybe get a second-rounder," Rutter said on the Breakfast With Benz podcast. Also Read: “I would like to play”: Deion Sanders champions Colorado’s Spring Game as other programs abandon traditionWith both the Raiders and Patriots potentially in the mix, Pickens' future in Pittsburgh remains uncertain. If the Steelers decide to move him, a draft-day trade could be the perfect opportunity to reshape their roster. As the NFL Draft nears, this situation will be one of the most compelling storylines to watch.
