"I cant fix this": Michael Strahan reflects on the helplessness he felt during his daughter’s cancer diagnosis

Michael Strahan shared his emotional journey on The View after his daughter Isabella Strahan was diagnosed with a brain tumor in October 2023. Following successful treatment, she was declared cancer-free in August 2024 and resumed her studies at USC. A new ABC special, 'Life Interrupted: Isabella Strahan's Fight Against Cancer,' will air on 5th February.

Michael Strahan, the NFL legend, has had a tough year after his daughter, Isabella Strahan, was diagnosed with a brain tumour back in October 2023. While Isabella Strahan was declared cancer free in August 2024, Michael Strahan has since opened up about his own experience. Recently, Michael Strahan appeared on The View, where he looked visibly emotional and about to cry, as he spoke about his daughter’s fight against cancer.

Michael Strahan Opens Up About His Daughter Isabella’s Brain Cancer Battle | The View

Michael Strahan revealed the most difficult experiences in his life as he dealt with Isabella Strahan’s cancer diagnosis. Reflecting on Isabella’s journey, he said, “The toughest thing to sit in a hospital room with your kid, and you just sit there and tell them you love them, and have your kid look at you and say, 'Dad, I'll do whatever they say. I just want to live. I don't want to die.'"
He also revealed that Isabella Strahan had to relearn how to do basic things after she had her first brain surgery to remove the tumour. Hearing about Michael Strahan’s experiences and pain, The View’s host Sara Haines was left teary eyed.
Michael Strahan has also revealed that he did not have the courage to watch his daughter’s vlogs on her cancer journey. He also added that he is unsure whether he would actually end up watching the new ABC special which will be based on his daughter, Isabella Strahan’s fight against cancer - Life Interrupted: Isabella Strahan's Against Cancer. He said, “I don't even know if I'll watch this documentary, even though I participated and answered questions for it.”
He adds that he does not want to “relive it” and that it’s “too hard” for him to watch his daughter go through all of the pain that she had to bear. He also continued to add that as a father all he wanted to do was fix this situation but was unable to so all he did was “sit back and pray” that his daughter was in the hands of the “right doctors”.

Fortunately, the pain for the Strahan family did not last very long. Just months after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in October 2023, Isabella Strahan successfully beat cancer and was back at college in August 2024.

When Isabella Strahan was first diagnosed with cancer, she had just joined the prestigious Univerisity of Southern California and could only manage to attend a total of fifty days before she had to get her chemotherapy done. So once she was declared cancer free, she immediately went back to studying for a bachelor's in journalism and communication at the USC and is enjoying her college life currently.
The new ABC Special based on Michael Strahan’s daughter will be releasing on 5th February.
