“I’m not really surprised”: Former Super Bowl champion reacts to Ravens ahead of Week 5 vs. Texans

Former New England Patriots star and Super Bowl champion Julian Edelman isn’t pressing the panic button on the Baltimore Ravens. Even as the team faces mounting injuries and early-season struggles. The Ravens enter Week 5 against the Houston Texans sitting at 1-3, their season already clouded by health concerns and inconsistency. Quarterback Lamar Jackson, the team’s heartbeat, is sidelined with a soft-tissue injury. This leaves Baltimore to rely on backup Cooper Rush. Injuries to key defensive players and the offense’s inability to find rhythm are why fans are anxious.

Julian Edelman and his undaunting faith

Still, Edelman isn’t buying into the worry. Speaking on FOX ahead of Sunday’s matchup, the former wide receiver reminded everyone that Baltimore has been here before. “I’m not really surprised,” Edelman said. “They started 2-2 last year. They always start slow. They’ll knock off an eight-game winning streak like they always do. This is a little more concerning because Lamar is hurt, but they always start slow. Last year, we were saying the same thing.”
Edelman’s comments come at a time when the odds have turned sharply against the Ravens. With Jackson out, oddsmakers now have the Texans as two-point favorites.
This is a striking reversal considering Houston has only managed one win this season. Also Read: Injury crisis deepens for Ravens: QB Lamar Jackson, Kyle Hamilton, Ronnie Stanley, and more out vs. TexansUnder head coach DeMeco Ryans, the Texans haven’t exactly been lighting up the scoreboard, but they’ve shown flashes of discipline and defensive toughness. Their offensive line remains a weak spot, yet their defense is capable of causing problems, especially for a backup quarterback like Rush. Ryans’ defense is expected to test Baltimore’s protection schemes and put constant pressure.

The game to be a probable page-turner

This game is very important for the Ravens. A loss would drop them to 1-4. This would further increase concerns about their playoff hopes. Only a win could help stabilize the team before Jackson’s return. Derrick Henry, who has struggled with ball security in recent weeks, will be under pressure to carry the offense and control the tempo.
Edelman’s faith in the Ravens’ resilience reflects the team’s history under John Harbaugh. They’ve bounced back from adversity before, whether through midseason win streaks or late playoff pushes. But with Jackson sidelined and their roster battered, Baltimore’s margin for error is shrinking fast.
