The New York Jets are reportedly considering a new starting quarterback for 2025, following the disappointing news that Aaron Rodgers will be replaced. Rodgers, despite being past his prime, is still capable of playing at a high level, and many believe he is a better option for the Jets than the free agent market.
Jets aim to fill Aaron Rodgers’ shoes with Jalen Milroe
The New York Jets are seeking a new starting quarterback after parting ways with Aaron Rodgers, despite his age and high skill level, raising questions about their strategy for the 2025 season. The Jets, holding the No. 7 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, are considering a two-pronged approach to their quarterback situation.
This involves a veteran player for immediate impact and a rookie for future development, as top prospects like Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders may be unavailable.Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, a blend of Jalen Hurts and athleticism, is gaining attention as a potential pocket passer. His combination of speed, physicality, and arm strength aligns with modern quarterback mold, indicating room for growth.
Bleacher Report's Dame Parson suggests that Milroe, a potential NFL quarterback, may need time to develop before becoming an immediate starter, highlighting his need for improvement in his passing game before assuming the role. “Shades of Jalen Hurts with a jet pack and stronger arm,” Parson said of Milroe.
He added, "Milroe's outstanding blend of elite speed/athleticism, physically dense build, and a live arm fits the trend of today's quarterback archetypes. As he has shown this season, there are encouraging flashes of development as a pocket passer. If this continues, NFL decision-makers will be more than intrigued about placing him in their offense and building around his skillset.”
Milroe attended Tompkins High School in Katy, Texas. As a junior, he threw for 2,689 yards and 29 touchdowns adding an additional eight touchdowns rushing and 378 yards. In 2020 as a senior, he passed for 1,136 yards and 13 touchdowns. During his high school career, Milroe tallied 3,825 passing yards, 559 rushing yards, and 53 total touchdowns leading Tompkins to over 30 wins in three seasons.
He originally committed to Texas before deciding to switch to the University of Alabama. Milroe's potential is gaining excitement, but his draft position remains uncertain. Pre-draft workouts could lead to first-round consideration, but selecting him with the No. 7 pick may be premature due to the need for further game refinement.
