If they opt for Milroe at No. 21 in the 2024 NFL Draft, it could indicate a long-term investment rather than another stopgap solution.


Jalen Milroe may not be the most polished passer in this draft class, but his potential is undeniable. The Alabama quarterback threw for 2,844 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions last season. While those numbers don’t scream elite pocket passer, his mobility is what makes him stand out. Milroe rushed for 20 touchdowns in 2023, ranking fourth all-time among Alabama players—only trailing legends like Derrick Henry and Najee Harris. His dual-threat capability could bring a dynamic edge to the Steelers’ offense.


With a relatively weak quarterback class, the Steelers’ options are limited. Top prospects like Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are expected to go within the first three picks, leaving Pittsburgh with fewer choices. Milroe, however, has openly expressed interest in joining the Steelers. He recently stated, “If the opportunity presents itself for me to be his quarterback, I’ll take full advantage of it,” referring to head coach Mike Tomlin. If Pittsburgh is serious about securing a young, athletic quarterback, Milroe could be their best bet.

Aaron Rodgers’ free agency decision and what it means for Pittsburgh

While Pittsburgh evaluates its future, the Aaron Rodgers situation remains unresolved. The four-time MVP reportedly met with the Steelers’ top brass, spending six hours in discussions. However, no deal has been finalized. According to NFL insider Albert Breer, Rodgers’ decision isn’t solely about money, he’s prioritizing a team culture similar to what he experienced in Green Bay. With a veteran core featuring T.J. Watt, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Cam Heyward, the Steelers could still appeal to Rodgers’ championship aspirations.
