During the San Francisco 49ers’ crushing 41-6 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Divisional Round, Tom Brady, who was on commentary duty made a remark that quickly caught attention. As Brock Purdy struggled under constant pressure, Brady compared the situation to a Super Bowl moment involving Mahomes.

“That’s almost like Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl I played against him,” Brady said on air.

The reference was to Super Bowl LV, when Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9. In that game, Mahomes was under relentless pressure due to a battered offensive line and was forced to scramble constantly, even though he managed to make a few highlight-reel throws.

While Brady did not criticise Mahomes directly, the comparison was hard to miss. That Super Bowl is remembered as one of the rare nights when Mahomes looked human, overwhelmed by pressure and unable to carry his team.

Purdy finished the night with modest numbers 140 passing yards, no touchdowns, and an interception. But the stat line only tells part of the story. San Francisco turned the ball over five times and struggled to protect their quarterback or establish any offensive rhythm.

Brady, to his credit, also acknowledged the bigger picture. He highlighted how remarkable it was that the 49ers even reached this point, given the long list of injuries they dealt with throughout the season.

Seattle’s defense, led by a relentless pass rush, exposed San Francisco’s weaknesses. The Seahawks, who entered the season with modest expectations after major roster changes, now move on to the NFC Championship Game.
