As the Washington Commanders prepare for their third Sunday Football matchup without star quarterback Jayden Daniels, fans finally have a reason to cheer. Terry McLaurin, the team’s star wide receiver, is set to make his long-awaited return against the Denver Broncos at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland. His quadriceps strain began in Week 3, causing him to miss Weeks 4 through 7. He returned for Week 8 but reaggravated the injury, missing Weeks 9 and 10. After an on-field rehab session in Madrid for the Week 11 game, he was expected to return after the team’s Week 12 bye, targeting Week 13. On the final injury report of this week, McLaurin was listed with a quad injury, was limited in Wednesday’s practice, and did not practice on Friday. Now, Commanders fans can look forward to seeing their playmaker back in action.
Is Terry McLaurin playing in the Week 13 showdown of Sunday Night Football against the Denver Broncos?
Yes, Terry McLaurin is expected to play in the Week 13 Sunday Night Football matchup against the Denver Broncos. Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said McLaurin has worked hard and seeing him return after frustrating days and tough conversations is a big deal. Quinn is confident about McLaurin’s return and wants the team to regain the explosive offense it had with Terry.
“Excited to see Terry, 17, back out. He’s worked hard,” Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said about McLaurin this week. “It’s been a long stretch for him. So, getting him back out there, that’s a big deal...Obviously, for the deep ball, that’s Terry’s superpower of tracking the deep balls to go, but there’s screens, there’s intermediate routes, he’s a very good route runner. There’s an energy that goes with that...To see that come back after some frustrating days and hard conversations and quiet moments to work hard and get back, it’s a big deal.”
McLaurin also feels confident, reports no quadriceps tightness, and likes his acceleration while running routes. He said his acceleration is back, and he is not thinking about it at all. He feels better this time, and the ramp-up process has gone well. “I feel like my acceleration is there, just kind of like that next gear that I have, and I’m just not really thinking about it at all,” McLaurin said. “I definitely feel better this time around, and the ramp-up process has been really good.”
Terry is eager for wins and looks forward to seeing the offense flourish after many injuries and a strong comeback. He said the plan was always for everyone to be part of the offense, make plays, and feed off each other, and he hopes everyone stays healthy and can contribute. “The plan at the beginning of the season was for all of us to be part of this offense and make plays and feed off of one another,” McLaurin said. “I think we’ll have a chance…To hopefully see that, praying that everybody is healthy and can contribute.”
The wide receiver wants to keep playing and is encouraged that his teammates and coaches feel he has not missed a step. He has confidence in himself. “I plan to play as much as I can and as much as they’ll allow me to,” McLaurin said in Wednesday’s press conference. “It’s really encouraging to hear from my teammates and coaches that they don’t feel like I’ve missed a step. I just have a confidence about myself.”
