The last date for the 2024-25 NHL trade is nearing as we speak. It's this Friday, March 7, and some teams are positioning themselves as they please. Take Seth Jones, for instance. This defenseman, who secured only 27 points playing 42 games for the Chicago Blackhawks this season, gets traded against a Stanley Cup winner, Spencer Knight! The Florida Panthers traded their young goaltender, Spencer Knight, for Seth Jones. Netizens expressed their disbelief over X. But that's not all. There are a few more such shocks. Let's take a look at three of them.

Nashville Predators traded their 35 YO forward Gustav Nyquist to the Minnesota Wild

Nashville Predators have traded their forward Gustav Nyquist for a second-round 2026 NHL draft of the Minnesota Wild. The Predators will be retaining 50% of Nyquist's share of the contract. Gustav Nyquist is a goldmine with 841 career NHL games and 524 points. Nyquist was a major portion of the 2014 Winter Olympics, 2025 4 Nations Face-Off, and five international tournaments for Sweden.Gustav Nyquist will be playing for the Minnesota Wild for the second time. The first time the veteran forward played for the Wild was in the 2022-2023 NHL season.

Are the Toronto Maple Leafs going to trade one of these - Easton Cowan and Fraser Minten?

According to Hannah Stuart, an NHL Insider, "There's been chatter that the Leafs are open to trading one of Easton Cowan or Fraser Minten to acquire the right player. My money is on Cowan, the smaller of the two, to be the one traded. And we know that the Hurricanes love small, impactful forwards.
Cowan alone wouldn't be enough in return. But Nick Robertson's name has been thrown out as a trade deadline piece. Robertson is highly skilled offensively and a quick skater - reading his scouting report feels like reading Carolina's calling card, and trading Rantanen requires bolstering the forward corps."

Would the just-out-of-the-losing streak Edmonton Oilers keep their injured 33 YO forward Evander Kane?

Evander Kane has suffered tremendously from 2 torn hip muscles, 2 hernias, and 2 torn lower abdomen muscles in September 2024 to knee surgery in January 2025. Kane's been a crucial portion of the Edmonton Oilers, he bolstered the Oilers into the Stanley Cup Finale last season. Kane shared, "This knee procedure was something that we could manage and get that done so it wouldn't affect me when I did come back and then possibly have to miss the entire season. It's great to get this cleaned up and I plan to be 100% ready to go at some point in this season."Kane's absence was felt by the Oilers when they weren't able to win any matches after February 5, 2025. Somehow, they broke this losing curse just recently. Thanks to their goaltender Calvin Pickard, who stopped 35 out of 36 shots that were thrown at him!
