Nikolaj Ehlers is expected to hit the open market in NHL Free Agency 2025 after completing a seven-year, $42 million contract with the Winnipeg Jets. The Carolina Hurricanes have emerged as strong contenders to land the 28-year-old winger—known for his speed, scoring touch, and offensive creativity. If he moves, it could be one of the biggest signings of the offseason.According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman on the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast, the Hurricanes are showing serious interest in Ehlers.“Carolina, I think they really want that guy,” Friedman said, especially now with Mitch Marner likely off the board and other top names from Florida still uncertain.Ehlers perfectly fits Carolina’s style—fast, skilled, and creative. The Hurricanes have traditionally avoided overly physical players, preferring mobile, playmaking forwards.
