Sidney Crosby continues to carve his name deeper into hockey history. The Pittsburgh Penguins captain reached the 1,700-point milestone on Monday night, becoming just the ninth player in NHL history to achieve the feat. Crosby hit the mark during the Penguins’ 6-3 win over the St. Louis Blues at PPG Paints Arena, adding yet another chapter to his extraordinary career.

Sidney Crosby’s historic night cements his legendary status

Entering the matchup with 1,698 points, Crosby wasted little time making history. Just 42 seconds into the third period, he set up Bryan Rust’s goal, marking his 1,700th career point. It wasn’t his first contribution of the night either—earlier, he assisted on Parker Wotherspoon’s goal to fuel Pittsburgh’s offensive momentum.Crosby then added his own goal on a breakaway to seal the victory, finishing with 1,700 points in 1,362 career games. That makes him the fourth-fastest player to ever reach the milestone, trailing only Wayne Gretzky (711), Mario Lemieux (887), and Marcel Dionne (1,257).
Currently, Crosby stands alone as the only active player with at least 1,700 points. He joins an elite group that includes Gretzky, Jaromir Jagr, Mark Messier, Gordie Howe, Ron Francis, Dionne, Steve Yzerman, and Lemieux.
The 38-year-old has been a model of consistency—recording at least a point per game in all 20 of his NHL seasons—and shows no signs of slowing down.

Sidney Crosby’s legacy goes beyond the ice

Drafted first overall by the Penguins in 2005, Crosby has spent his entire career with the franchise. He holds team records for most games played (1,362) and assists (1,069), while his 632 goals rank second only to Lemieux’s 690. When including playoff numbers, Crosby’s 1,902 total points surpass Lemieux’s 1,895, underscoring his unmatched longevity and influence.Off the ice, Crosby’s impact is equally profound. In 2022, he received the Order of Canada for his contributions to both hockey and community service. Reflecting on his journey, Crosby once said, “I think when you’re in the position we’re in, you have a pretty good opportunity to help make a difference on and off the ice.”As the Penguins’ captain continues to inspire with his play and leadership, fans can only watch in awe as he climbs even higher on the all-time list. With his contract running through 2027, Sidney Crosby’s story is far from over—and his greatness continues to define an era of hockey excellence. Also Read: "He skated out of trouble...": Luke Hughes earns massive praise from coach after electrifying performance in Devils’ eighth straight victory
