It comes as a surprise when a team so good, with 47 wins, only 17 losses, and 9 overtime losses in an
NHL season, gets defeated by a team with more losses than wins. To be precise, 31 wins, 36 losses, and 6 overtime losses. We are talking about the Washington Capitals and Buffalo Sabres, respectively. Head coach for the Washington Capitals, Spencer Carbery, admits that the NHL players in his team have a mental block against a team like the Buffalo Sabres.
“What is it about (Buffalo)Sabres’ play style that seems to give you guys so much trouble?” asked a reporter at the post-game conference on Sunday.
“Their skill speed. We get what we deserve tonight because I don’t know if it’s a mental block with our group. There’s just something that when they see a team like this, they wanna play their style of game, and it goes south on us. That’s not who we are. Guys are trying, and there’s effort stuff involved, but at the end of the day, you have to be able to just play direct and play our style, and we failed to do that against this team consistently, which ultimately falls on me.” replied head coach for the Washington Capitals Spencer Carbery.
Alex Ovechkin did not play much in the second period of the Washington Capitals versus Buffalo Sabres NHL game on Sunday
“Alex (Ovechkin) didn’t play much in the second period.” mentioned a reporter.
“We were fighting to stay in that game. I just thought I didn’t like any of our top-six. Those two lines over the last two games, we’ve been okay, but no production from them. The minutes in the second period - it’s a product of just the penalty kills, and there were some rotations where he(Alex Ovechkin) goes, but it wasn’t just me needing to change the mix of the forward group.” clarified Spencer Carbery.
Alex Ovechkin scores his 890th goal in the Washington Capitals and Buffalo Sabres match on Sunday
Not a sunny day for the 39 YO Washington Capitals’ Superstar on Sunday! He was only 7 minutes and 43 seconds in the first two periods. Alex Ovechkin was only 6 goals away from The Great One’s score of 894! But Ovechkin is at 890 now. After the Capitals-Sabres match. 5 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s most-career NHL goals record of 894!
Talking about three back-to-back losses, Alex Ovechkin shared with NHL.com, “We lost three in a row, and right now, it’s a good thing it’s happening right now and not in the playoffs. But we just have to buoyancy back, and we just have to find our way to win the games,”
