NEW DELHI: PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist shuttler, kicked off her quest for glory at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a dominant victory. The 29-year-old athlete expressed her delight at the unexpected presence of Telugu cinema icon Chiranjeevi and his family, who witnessed her opening match at the prestigious event.
In her first group stage encounter on Sunday, Sindhu showcased her prowess by securing a commanding straight-games triumph over Fathimath Abdul Razzaq from Maldives in the women's singles category.
The Indian shuttler's impressive performance set the tone for her campaign as she aims to add another Olympic medal to her already illustrious collection.
Sindhu took to Instagram to share a delightful photograph featuring herself alongside the iconic actor Chiranjeevi and his family members. The image captured Sindhu posing with Chiranjeevi, his son and the celebrated star of the film "RRR," Ram Charan, along with Charan's wife, Upasana Kamaneni, and Chiranjeevi's wife, Surekha Konidala.

"The loveliest surprise at the Olympics was having Chiru Uncle and the whole family, including the sweetest Kaara, for my first match in Paris," she wrote, also referring to the star's 13-month-old granddaughter Klin Kaara Konidela.
The ace badminton player also described Chiranjeevi as "possibly the most respected actor in cinema".
"There are very, very few people in this world who possess the class, grace, and charm quite like Chiru Uncle... there's just no one quite like him. To Upsi, Charan, Chiru Uncle, and Surekha Aunty, you guys are special," she added in her post shared on Monday.

Sindhu, the 10th seed Indian, made quick work of her opponent in the Group M match, securing a decisive victory in a mere 29 minutes with scores of 21-9, 21-6. The two-time Olympic medalist, having earned silver in Rio in 2016 and bronze in Tokyo, is on a quest for her third Olympic medal.
Her next challenge will be against Estonia's Kristin Kuuba, ranked 75th in the world, in the second group encounter scheduled for Wednesday.
