NEW DELHI: The F1 fervour is all set to rock the city earlier than expected with Red Bull-Racing (RBR) cars zooming on the Rajpath on October 1 ahead of the inaugural Indian Grand Prix on October 30.
Hispania Racing Team driver Daniel Ricciardo will be behind the wheel of the F1 car during the Red Bull Speed Street event.
Red Bull-Racing are the runaway leaders in the F1 Championships in 2011 - a title they are defending this season.
Defending champion Sebastian Vettel is at 284 points, way ahead of his nearest competitor Fernando Alonso of Ferrari at 172. The team is at 451 points ahead of McLaren-Mercedes at 325 with six races to go this season.
The team will be making their second appearance on the Indian shores after 2009 when David Coulthard drove the F1 car in Mumbai. Ricciardo, who incidentally has replaced Narain Karthikeyan in the HRT team, will power the Red Bull on a 1 km stretch on Rajpath. The 22-year-old Australian driver will drive for HRT apart from the Indian GP where Narain will step in.
This will be the second such road show to be held in New Delhi. In 2008, Renault F1 drivers Nelson Piquet and Lucas Di Grassi took to the Capital's streets. About 120,000 people turned out for the road show that saw Piquet and Di Grassi showcase F1 power around a specially-designed 1.2 km track that took the cars along Rajpath, from India Gate to Janpath.
