The 21-year-old from Manipur, who earned her spot at the 2016 Rio Olympics in the 48kg category by winning silver in the selection trials held in Patiala, carries serious hope into the Summer Games.

On the way to qualifying for the Olympics, Chanu broke two national records - her own, by 1 kg more, when lifting 85kg and then the 12-year-old national record which was held by her coach and veteran weightlifter
