NEW DELHI, March 12: Sunitha Rao wasted little time in setting up a 6-1, 6-3 win over Teodora Mircic in the second round of the $50,000 ITF Womens Circuit event here on Wednesday.
Sunitha's forehand, which seemed wobbly in her first round match, behaved itself and she used it to good effect to set up vital points. In the third game of the first set, Sunitha set up a break point with a firmly hit forehand winner.
A forehand that found the net instead of Sunitha's racquet gave the 175-ranked Indian the all-important break.
Once she had the break in hand, Sunitha upped the tempo, forcing Mircic to make errors. The Serbian appeared to crumble under the onslaught of Sunitha's shots. Mircic lost serve in the fifth and seventh game, giving Sunitha the set 6-1.
Just when it looked like Sunitha had the measure of Mircic, the seventh-seed lost serve, spraying her shots all over the court.
