Has the WWE Royal Rumble match seen current World Champions compete in the past?

In the 38-year-long history of the Royal Rumble match, there have been a few times that current champions have been a part of the match. In the past, a few Royal Rumble matches have been contested for the World Championship itself.
However, there have been two instances when a current World Champion has entered the Royal Rumble in hopes of winning the opportunity to capture another World Championship. The first time was in 2020 when WWE Champion Brock Lesnar entered the Rumble and eliminated an impressive 13 men before being tossed out by the eventual winner, Drew McIntyre.

The second time was in the 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble when Charlotte Flair, who was the reigning SmackDown Women’s Champion, entered the match. The Queen also had a good showing in the match but was also eliminated by the winner of the match, the returning Ronda Rousey.
