In one of the biggest shocks in the history of WWE, Hollywood Superstar and WWE stalwart
John Cena turned on the WWE Universe and Cody Rhodes after winning the Elimination Chamber match. The fan favourite superstar sided with the “Final Boss” Rock, to attack the current Undisputed WWE Champion in astonishing manner, in the presence of superstar rapper Travis Scott.
Here are 3 reasons why Cena attacked Cody Rhodes to side with The Rock
1. Jealousy towards Cody
Before Cody Rhodes became the biggest unprecedented face of the company, John Cena was the one sitting at the top of that pedestal. “The Champ” was the biggest “Babyface” of the company for the better parts of 2000’s in 2010’s. But after the “American Nightmare” returned to WWE 2022, he had taken over the baton from Cena and became the biggest baby face of the promotion. Now, it is evident that Cena was not all that amused with Cody’s popularity as the biggest hero of the company and hence he attacked the WWE Champion in a brutal fashion, by the order of the Final Boss.
2. Sells out to the Final Boss
A couple of weeks back, the Rock suggested and demanded Cody to give him his soul and become a sellout to the authority. As the Rock is the boss of WWE, he commanded Cody to become a sellout. While Cody did not agree to submit his soul to the Final Boss, eventually the 17 times World Champion Cena sold out to the WWE boss after the Rock signalled him to do so. After Cody vehemently denied to become a sell-out and insulted the Rock, Cena was seen making merry and hugging Cody, but as soon as the Rock signalled Cena to attack him, he viciously pounced on the current WWE Champion and left him in a pile of his own blood at the end of the night. Interestingly, superstar Travis Scott also helped the Rock and Cena in pulverising Cody. Now, it is pretty evident that both Travis and Cena have joined hands with the Final Boss.
3. To spice things up before WrestleMania 41
John Cena Finally Turns HEEL, Joins The Rock & Destroys Cody Rhodes - WWE Elimination Chamber 3/1/25
It is pretty clear that the WWE were in dire need to spice things up before Wrestlemania 41, as all the storylines were becoming a little monotonous. Hence, it might have been decided for Cena to turn “Heel”, firstly to shock the WWE Universe and secondly to make things interesting for the main event of the grandest stage of them all. Now the stage is perfectly set for Cody Rhodes versus John Cena in probably the biggest encounter of the decade. And it will be under the usual precedent of “good versus bad”. Now that Cena has well and truly become villainous, it will be interesting to see what Cody comes up with, to defend his World Title at wrestlemania 41.
