Minecraft Dungeons 2 confirmed to launch later this year: Release date, gameplay and other details

Microsoft and Mojang Studio have officiall have officially announced Minecraft Dungeons II. This is the sequel to the 2020 action RPG set in the Minecraft universe. The game is scheduled to launch on September 29 and will be available across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox on PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. It will also be available through Xbox Game Pass at launch.


The release date was revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 alongside a new gameplay trailer that offered a first look at the game’s combat, environments, enemies, and cooperative gameplay features.


In a blog post, the game’s developer wrote, “Disorder is brewing in biomes across the land. Restless mobs, mysterious events, and whispers of strange encounters. Something is amiss, and the Overworld stands before a threat unlike any other it has faced before. It is in desperate need of heroes, and on September 29, a new chapter begins in the Dungeons saga! This is Minecraft Dungeons II.”

Minecraft Dungeons 2: Editions and pre-order bonuses

Mojang has confirmed that the game will be available in both Standard and Deluxe editions. The Standard Edition contains the base game, and the Deluxe Edition includes four hero skins, the Soul Cape cosmetic item, the Blub pet companion, and access to two future DLC expansions. Pre-orders are now open at participating retailers and digital shopfronts. Players who pre-order the game will be rewarded with:

Players who pre-order Minecraft Dungeons II will receive two hero skins, the Twisted Cape cosmetic item, and the Twisted Chicken pet as pre-order bonuses. The pre-order promotion will run until September 28, though availability may vary by platform, retailer, and region. Minecraft Dungeons II launches on September 29, 2026, for these platforms:

Minecraft Dungeons 2: Gameplay and other details

According to Mojang Studios and co-developer Double Eleven, Minecraft Dungeons II will take players through a “fresh-yet-familiar world” filled with unexplored locations, hostile creatures, and a new threat facing the Overworld. Players will once again create and customise their hero using a variety of equipment collected throughout the game. The gameplay trailer showcased top-down action combat, large-scale enemy encounters, environmental exploration, and battles against larger boss-like creatures.


Like its predecessor, Minecraft Dungeons II can be played solo or cooperatively. Players can tackle missions alone or join up with up to three other players through online or couch co-op multiplayer. The game supports four-player cooperative gameplay, allowing teams to work together against larger groups of enemies and more difficult encounters.
