FAKE ALERT: 2019 photo of Gandhi siblings grinning for cameras linked to Hathras case

CLAIM
A photo of Congress leaders Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi is being shared with the claim that it was clicked during their recent visit to Hathras. In this photo, the Gandhi siblings can be seen grinning and posing for camera.
The photo is being used to attack the duo for playing politics and being insensitive towards the Hathras victim.


TRUTH
The photo is from April, 2019.It was clicked in Kanpur when the duo posed for cameras during the pre-election campaigning. It has nothing to do with their visit to Hathras.
VERIFICATION AND METHODOLOGY
Using reverse-image search, we found the original image tweeted from Congress’ official handle on April 27, 2019.
It was posted by Congress, along with two other similar pictures from the same moment, showing the sibling bond between Priyanka and Rahul.
Tagging verified handles of both Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi , the text accompanying the photos read, “Some golden moment amidst election campaigning”.

Rahul had also shared a live video of the moment on Facebook on April 27, 2019.
“Was nice meeting Priyanka at Kanpur Airport! We’re headed to different meetings in UP,” read the caption given by Rahul to the video.

Times Fact Check has found that a 2019 photo of Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi is being shared with a false claim that it was clicked during their recent visit to Hathras.
