Police arrested a 35-year-old snack shop owner on charges of indulging in a series of thefts during the lockdown in Thanjavur on Tuesday. Police said J Suresh Chelladurai, a native of Sathankulam in Tuticorin, had settled in Ammapettai six years ago with his wife.

A medical lab owner from Pudukkottai district has been arrested for buying a six-month-old child from Avaniyapuram in Madurai city. Four more people, including two women, were also arrested for brokering the sales. Based on a complaint from the child’s mother, a case was registered with Avaniyapuram police station. Police are searching for two more people involved in the incident.
