Renowned Malayalam actor and director Salim Kumar has passed away at 56 after a cardiac arrest. Battling multiple health issues including liver cirrhosis and kidney ailments, the National Award winner was on ventilator support. His demise has deeply saddened the film industry and fans, who remember his versatile performances, from hilarious comedy to poignant drama.

Veteran actor Mamukoya, who entertained the Malayali filmgoer for four decades by essaying both comedy and character roles with elan in over 450 films, passed away at a private hospital here on Wednesday afternoon. He was 76.

Mamukoya was the ultimate ‘Common Man’ actor who celebrated the ordinary and exalted the local on the Malayalam silver screen--be it the numerous characters he gave life to with effortless e ase or his signature Kozhikode slang which made the log scaler from the timber yards of Kallayi secure a place for him in the annals of Malayalam cinema.

Mamukkoya passed away on Wednesday.
