Escape to the movies at this independent cinema's bar
Talk of the town: Going strong since 1914, the Cameo is one of the oldest cinemas still in use in Scotland. Lending it further cool points, local megastar Sean Connery officially opened the bar in 1963.
Word to the wise: There is a regular schedule of art exhibitions and events, to further amuse.
Housed in Edinburgh's charmingly antiquated art house cinema of the same name, the Cameo Picturehouse Bar exudes the same weathered 'golden-age' character as the rest of the Edwardian building.
Recently re-vamped yet an enduringly cozy place to enjoy a drink, the bar offers a great selection of beers, wines and spirits at a reasonable price for central Edinburgh.

While having a tipple, if one of the independent films on show takes your fancy, there's no need to drink up; in an almost unheard of gesture of grown-up leniency, alcoholic drinks are allowed into the cinema.
