While not known for its beaches, Vancouver actually has quite a few, all within the city. Downtown, Sunset Beach lies close to the Burrard Bridge, looking straight across to Kitsilano, while a path leading north takes you to English Bay Beach, by far the most popular in the city. This is where Vancouverites come to watch the sunset, and the summer Celebration of Light fireworks festival is held. Read less

Hit the sand during the summer months
Word to the wise: Paddleboarding has taken Vancouver by storm. Look for the rental kiosk at English Bay.
Further north in Stanley Park, you'll find Third Beach. Boasting spectacular views of the North Shore Mountains, this quieter beach is a popular picnic spot. Across English Bay, looking back to the city, is Kitsilano Beach, Vancouver's not quite as picturesque equivalent to Sydney's Bondi, where cool kids come to pose by the volleyball courts, outdoor pool and slick restaurant.
Other beaches include Locarno, Spanish Bank, Jericho and Second Beach. Head down on the hottest summer day, when the chilly water almost feels refreshing.
