Victoria Theatre & Victoria Concert Hall in the downtown civic area was built way back in 1855, and underwent a massive refurbishment before reopening to the public in 2014. The theatre and concert hall are actually housed in separate buildings, but are connected by a covered common atrium. Although the venue now accommodates fewer seats than it did before, an improvement in the acoustics more than makes up for it. The unneeded chairs have been used in various installations around the complex—look out for the impressive looking wall of chairs. Much was done to retain the elegant Victorian architecture, and the iconic clock tower has also been kept relatively intact, though it is no longer open to public. The Concert Hall is the home of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Performances are held in the evenings, and while you might not be able to poke your head into the halls if rehearsals are underway, you are free to wander through the space and admire the classic historical architecture for yourself.
