The quaint city of Karwar, located a little over 500 km from the capital city of Bangalore, is a port city situated on the western coast of South India. It is well connected by road and rail with all major Indian cities, the latter being via the Konkan Railway. While there is no airport in Karwar, the nearest airport is Dabolim Airport in Goa about 60 km away. In fact, this city in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka lies about 15 km south of Karnataka-Goa border. The city, famous for coconut, cashew and fish curry, is located on the banks of the Kali River. Being a coastal city, fishing is a major activity here. Besides, there is a nuclear power plant at Kaiga, 50 km away, and the Indian Navy operates its third largest base at the nearby Binaga township. The affable nature of the people and scenic locales and popular places to visit in and around Karwar make the place a great holiday option.
