The unknown Soor Sarovar Bird Sanctuary spans over 15 acres of green expanse, around 17 km from Agra. Declared a bird sanctuary in 1991, this site, particularly Keetham Lake, has been attracting birds from near and far. This large artificial wetland is inhabited by some of the endangered species like darters, painted stork and Oriental white ibis besides the regular Asian openbill stork, gadwall etc. The bird sanctuary is home to more than 165 species of migratory and resident birds. It is said that this serene place inspired the illustrious poet Surdas to compose the popular ‘Bhakti Kavya’ (devotional poetry).
