Davide has been a long term traveller for the last seven years, sharing his stories and impressive photos on NomadTravellers.com and travelling sustainably and very low cost. He knows every corner of Europe, in particular Italy and Romania, he loves Nepali Himalaya and he has extensive experience in South East Asia, where he calls Indonesia his second home. He is specialized in sightseeing guides and reports from his first hand experiences, with a focus on nature, arts and architecture.

The fields by the Talavera River, ‘Prati del Talavera’ in Italian language, is an area next to one of the two rivers passing through Bolzano, the other being the ‘Isarco’. Its wide green fields are a favourite gathering place during the warm spring days and at any time of the year it is not uncommon to see people jogging and doing sports in the recreational area.

Next to the fields is a long promenade where a monthly flea market is held and only private people can sell their products. It’s an occasion to recycle and give new life to forgotten items rather than creating a business. Even if there is no market, it’s a good idea to walk along the pleasant promenade lined by vineyards on one side and the fields and river on the other. The picturesque Maretsch Castle is also visible from here.

Our suggestion is to take some time to visit this area and to sit in one of the benches to admire what is best viewpoint of Bolzano, with the Dolomites mountain ranges in the background, the city skyline, the vineyards and the castle. Following the promenade to the north along the Talavera River, and then going further through the paved road in the same direction, it’s possible to reach Runkelstein Castle.
