Basteri village is located on the other bank of Baspa River, and you need to take a bridge over river to reach the village entrance. At the entrance you would be greeted by an arch with all the auspicious symbols of Buddhism and as soon as you enter the village you will see a beautifully carved Badri Narayan Temple. This temple was destroyed in a fire few years back and the villagers are building it back, panel-by-panel. The most interesting part of this temple is its exquisite idols that sit on a palanquin wearing a very Tibetan parasol. There is a Buddhist temple down the road. Take a walk in the village and see the trademark doors without walls in the village outside their storage areas. Notice the villagers proudly wearing the trademark green Kinnauri cap on their heads. You may have seen pictures of men wearing green Kinnauri cap made famous by the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh Virbhadra Singh, but what is interesting is that most women can be seen wearing this cap. A walk from Sangla to Basteri village is also very popular with the tourists coming to Sangla valley. Most of the camping sites of Sangla valley are located on the opposite bank of Basteri village.
