If you would rather head east than west, get into the car and drive for 2.5 hours to Kenora, Ontario. No passport is necessary to switch into another province, and the town of Kenora welcomes visitors all year around. A weekend itinerary for this lovely town starts off by booking one of the hotel or motels they offer here, or a B&B. There are plenty of trails to walk, some of them urban and some of them along the streets of downtown. One of the neatest things about Kenora is the “murmur” locations that are pointed out. These historical spots have phone numbers on them to call in order to find out more about them. Make sure to take a ride on the MS Kenora Cruise Ship, where you can spot bald eagles and million dollar cottages that are on the lake. If you would rather get wet, there are plenty of local beaches to enjoy and spots to rent either a kayak or canoe. And before you leave town, don’t you dare forget about Kenora’s mascot, Husky the Muskie, who is a 35-foot-tall statue of the famous fish!
