The water spider that lives in the high tide and low tide habitat has been compared with Marley’s song of the same name – High Tide or Low Tide. Australian scientists led by Dr. Barbara Behr of Queensland Museum have discovered this spider on the Australian coastline. The unusual spider, as described by the scientists is a unique marine creature, which is rare. A blog in the science journal Evolutionary Journal suggests that the spider is able to breathe underwater by covering in barnacle shells and then building air chambers from silk.
These marine spiders are however close to extinction, according to scientists. Studying the species would help to find out more on these species, and that is why this finding is so very important.
The tribute paid by the scientists by naming the spider Bob Marley is befitting, while at the same time they have also paid another tribute to Amalie Dietrich, a German naturalist from the 19th century. Travelling to Australia of course got a lot more fun, because now you have the chance of witnessing a reggae spider cope with the high tides and low tides of the sea.
