Parashurameshvara_TempleAnother prominent religious centre in Bubaneshwar is Parashurameshvara Temple, which is dedicated to the Hindu lord Shiva. The temple walls also features carved image of the six-armed Hindu goddess Mahishamardini (Durga). Built somewhere between the 7th and 8th century, it is a beautiful example of Orissan work of art that is also considered one of the oldest temples in the city. Owing to its terrific architecture and wonderful historical background, the temple is not only visited by religiously inclined but also by history lovers. Today, the place is being looked after by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Each year between the months of June and July, Parashurashtami festival is celebrated in the premises of the temple, which is a major tourist attraction and crowd puller.
