We have already discovered the most important attractions in the center—Walther Square, Fruit market square, the arcades and the religious architecture. But Bolzano is not only that and beyond the most known touristic circuit is a net of small alleys and historical streets which is absolutely remarkable.
Piazza del Municipio is where you can find the city hall and admire its neo-baroque stuccoes. One side of the square is linked with Via dei Bottai, a pedestrian street whose name can be transliterated in English as ‘barrel makers street’.
The Natural history museum and one of the finest local restaurants, the Cavallino Bianco are located along Via dei Bottai. Towards its end, turn to the right in Andreas Hofer street to see Ca’ de Bezzi, a historical bar and restaurant located inside an ancient building stretching over several floors. Come here in spring to see the amazing Wisteria flowers totally covering its walls.
In Via Argentieri, the street running parallel to the arcades, you can find the Mercantile museum and the Capitol Cafè, till not long ago the only cinema of the city. At one of its end is situated Piazza del Grano, right behind Walther Square, a small opening where the market was originally held.
