If you love all things adventure, we suggest you plan your itinerary around the gorgeous waterfalls that you will find almost everywhere in Meghalaya. You can’t go wrong with waterfalls. And the ones in Meghalaya will leave you speechless with their beauty. Here are some of the most popular ones for you to bookmark.
Seven Sisters Falls
Also known as Nohsngithiang Falls or Mawsmai Falls, this waterfall is a gorgeous seven-step cascade. It is easily one of the most beautiful and one of the tallest waterfalls in India. To see this waterfall in its full glory, visit during the monsoon season (July to September).
Dainthlen Falls
There are plenty of folktales associated with this one. One such story revolves around U-Thlen, a demon serpent. Locals believe that once upon a time, this demon serpent resided in one of the giant potholes near the waterfalls, and he would relentlessly torment the villagers. One fine day, all the villagers came together and killed the demon serpent and ate him. So that happened!
Nohkalikai Falls
Nohkalikai Falls is the tallest plunge waterfall in India. Needless to say, this one is a tourist hub. If you want to see the waterfall from a good viewing point, reach early. Nohkalikai is just seven kilometers from Cherrapunji.
Krang Suri Falls
Easily one of the most visited and photographed waterfalls in Meghalaya, Krang Suri is simply magical. Krang Suri is located in Jowai, approximately 65 km from the capital city of Shillong.
Wei Saw Dong Falls
The stunning three-tiered Wei Sawdong Falls is located in Cherrapunji, 54 km from Shillong. It is also located very close to the famous Nohkalikai Falls and Dainthlen Falls. You can easily cover these three on the same day.
