Visit Mt. Vitosha

Mt. Vitosha looms large over the city of Sofia, no matter where you go. The mountain boasts of over 10 peaks and is revered by most Bulgarian people. It also provides the perfect getaway—after all who doesn’t like to unwind in sylvan surroundings with crisp mountain air for company. There are plenty of picnicking opportunities available at Vitosha Nature Park, but for a truly rewarding experience, trek up Mt. Vitosha. The trek offers a scenic view of the surrounding countryside and it is perfect for both photography and adventure enthusiasts.
There are a number of different treks available depending on your fitness level. If you want something easy, which can be tackled in a short amount of time, try starting at the Aleko Hut area and climbing the Cherni Vrah Peak (2290 m). You will begin to see gorgeous plants here but this beauty intensifies as you climb higher and higher. Expect to see meandering streams, huge boulders, several different species of birds, patches full of wild flowers and alpine meadows all around. Hiking trails in the area are quite wide, so it’s easy to tackle them on your own. However, there are lots of hiking tours available in the area for beginners.
