Taraporewala Aquarium, opposite Chowpatty Beach, is the oldest aquarium in the country. It has been recently renovated, and is now one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city. The aquarium houses a variety of freshwater and marine fishes, and now has a number of interactive activities designed to capture the attention of youngsters. Fish Spa is one of the most popular sections, and you can always find kids gathered around, eager to dip their feet in the water. Touch Pool is another popular attraction where visitors, under supervision of course, can dip their hands in the water and touch the inhabitants. Needless to say, there are no dangerous creatures in this section. While the renovated aquarium is way better than the old one, which had been sadly neglected for years, we still have a long way to go before we get a world class aquarium. We can also only hope that this newly renovated one does better in terms of maintenance and upgradation than the old one. If you are planning to visit the aquarium, I strongly suggest you go on working days in the afternoons. It is almost always crowded now, thanks to the renovation and publicity, and weekends and evenings see a long queue snaking along the road.
