A steep winding drive uphill through the gorgeous vistas takes you to Mount Edith Cavell. Edith Cavell offers several trails each of different gradient, the easiest being a half an hour walk to Cavell pond (which most tourists do) & the most arduous being half a day hike to the Cavell Meadows. Besides time & aptitude, you can let your fondness or aversion to crowds decide which hike to take. Needless to say, the easiest & the shortest one draws the maximum visitors. As you hike through the rocky terrain upto the Cavell Pond, you will encounter excited rotund squirrels on the way. Your camaraderie with the friendly squirrel could easily last the length of the trail, as these gregarious hosts do not give up easily on the fellow visitors. The hike offers stunning views of the Angel glacier & reserves the best for the last, the Cavell Pond. Sitting pretty, beneath the Angel glacier, the Cavell Pond is a turquoise water spread fed by glacial icefall. This glacial pond is exquisitely decorated with mini icebergs. Lucky you will be, to stumble upon thundering sounds of fresh avalanche followed by huge pond splash!
On your way back, you still get one last chance to take the Cavell Meadows trail, & yes of course the calling of the blooming wildflowers is strong enough to pull you towards it!
