This was the headquarters of Bastar kingdom built by the rulers of Bastar state when the capital was shifted from Barsur to Jagdalpur. The art and architecture of the palace with delicate carvings speaks volume about the grandeur of the bygone era dominated by the rulers of this kingdom. The main visitor’s room of this historical monument serves as a tastefully decorated museum which holds some of the beautiful paintings of the erstwhile rulers along with the heavily ornamented chairs known as singhasans and wide beds known as palangs. The whole palace is lit up during Dussehra festival which is a very sought after event in this part of the region. The palace is situated just beside the Danteshwari Temple where Ma Danteshwari, the chief goddess of the locals, is worshipped with great pomp and show.
